This workshop is suitable for students in Years 3-5. It gives the students the chance to have a role within a rehearsed reading of a Shakespeare play using it's original language.
There are five stages to The Performance Project Workshop:
1). INTRODUCTORY PERFORMANCE
The Workshop leaders perform a short scene from the chosen play to give the students a feel for the dialogue. It also gives them a sense of what they can achieve during the day.
2). WARM UP GAMES
The warm up games not only act as an ‘Ice Breaker’ but also emphasise the importance of teamwork, voice and physicality in performance.
3). VERSE AND NARRATIVE STUDY
The students are shown some Shakespearean verse and speak it together, noting the rhythm and rhyme of the text.
They are then taken through the basic storyline and the characters they will be portraying.
4). SCENE REHEARSAL
The students are then split into small groups. Each group will rehearse and perform an edited scene form the play.
When all the scenes are put together, we are ready for
THE PERFORMANCE.
5). THE PERFORMANCE
At the end of the school day, the two groups of students come together to perform a rehearsed reading of the play using Shakespeare's original dialogue.
Teachers, fellow students and parents are all welcome to come and see what the students have achieved.
